Directions
Menno House is located at 314 East 19th Street, just east of Second Avenue in Manhattan.We are surrounded by an inviting neighborhood of townhouses, restaurants and shops and are within walking distance of Soho, Greenwich Village, Chelsea and Midtown. Arriving by car
From the Holland Tunnel, follow the uptown signs to Hudson Street. Go north on Hudson until it joins Eighth Avenue. Go north on Eighth Ave and turn right (east) onto 14th St. Turn left (north) onto First Ave. Turn left (west) onto 19th Street. Menno House will be most of the way toward Second Ave, on the left (south) side of the street.
From the Lincoln Tunnel, follow the downtown signs to Ninth Avenue. Go south on Ninth Ave and turn left (east) onto 14th Street. Turn left (north) onto First Ave. Turn left (west) onto 19th Street. Menno House will be most of the way toward Second Ave, on the left (south) side of the street.
From the George Washington Bridge, follow signs to the Major Deegan Expressway (Rt. 87). Go South through the Bronx until you see a sign for the Harlem River Parkway, also known as FDR Drive. Go south on the Harlem River Parkway to the 15th Street exit and follow it to 14th Street, then (from 14th St) turn right (north) onto First Avenue. Turn left (west) onto 19th Street. Menno House will be most of the way toward Second Ave, on the left (south) side of the street.
Parking
Driving and parking in Manhattan can often be time-consuming and frustrating. Free street parking is sometimes available within walking distance of Menno House, even on our block. However, the streets are cleaned several times a week, so read the street signs carefully. Cars are ticketed daily, and the fines are significant.
There are lots of parking garages in our neighborhood, but most will charge around $35 per day. The cheapest garages within walking distance are often the ones owned by Icon on 26th Street, between First and Second Avenues. They sometimes offer a cheaper rate for stays of three days or more.
As a more economical option, consider parking in Brooklyn or New Jersey and taking a subway, PATH train or ferry onto the island. Updated schedules and parking information can be found on websites for the MTA (Metropolitan Transportation Authority), New Jersey Transit and New York Waterway.
Arriving by bus
Greyhound and a number of other bus lines arrive at the Port Authority bus station on Eighth Avenue between 40th and 42nd Street. By subway, take a downtown A, C or E train to 14th Street and transfer underground to a crosstown L train. The L train originates at this station and you can only go east on it. Get off at the First Avenue stop and walk north to 19th Street.
Taxis from Port Authority will cost about $10, plus the 15% tip.
Chinatown is the terminus for a number of inexpensive express buses from East Coast cities. Unless the bus drops you off by a subway station, it's probably easiest to take a cab.
Arriving by train
Amtrak, Long Island Railroad and New Jersey Transit trains arrive at Penn Station, under Madison Square Garden, between Seventh and Eighth Avenue and 31st and 33rd Streets. From Penn Station, by subway, take a downtown A, C or E train to 14th Street and transfer underground to a crosstown L train. The L train originates at this station and you can only go east on it. Get off at the First Avenue stop and walk north to 19th Street.
PATH trains (from New Jersey) run under Sixth Avenue and stop at 14th Street, among others. From the 14th Street stop, take an L train east to First Avenue and walk north to 19th Street.
Metro North trains (from Connecticut and upstate New York) arrive at Grand Central Station, at Park Avenue and 42nd Street. Take the 4, 5 or 6 train downtown to the Union Square stop. Walk north and east to Second Avenue and 19th Street.
Arriving by plane
From JFK, a cab takes about 45 minutes, depending on traffic, and you will pay about a $53 flat fee, plus tolls and 15% tip. There is no charge for luggage or extra people.

Walk north and east to Second Avenue and 19th Street.
By public transportation, it's probably fastest and easiest to take the AirTrain to the E subway train in Jamaica. Transfer to a downtown 6 subway train at the 51st Street stop in Manhattan and get off at Union Square.Walk north and east to Menno House. If everything is running normally, the trip will take an hour and a half and cost $7.25.

If everything is running normally, the trip will take one hour and cost $2.25 each for bus and subway FOR BUS: you must have exact change in coins (or use a Metro Card that has at least $2.25 on it).
